Army Signs Covenant for HOPE in Lanao

MARAWI CITY, LANAO DEL SUR – In its effort to create an atmosphere free from any form of fear or apprehension during the conduct of the 2010 elections, the Joint Security Control Center (JSCC), together with other stakeholders in the province of Lanao, will conduct a signing ceremony for a Covenant for HOPE (Honest, Orderly, and Peaceful Election) and a Covenant of Peace, tomorrow, February 23 at the Mindanao State University, Marawi City campus.

The AFP, PNP, COMELEC, NGOs, DepEd, the youth, the Sultanate, the Bishop Ulama Conference, and other stakeholders will pledge their respective commitment on the advocacy for an honest, orderly, and peaceful election through a written covenant by affixing their respective signatures as proof of their pledge.

The Covenant of Peace, on the other hand, will be consist of the individual covenant of each of the electoral candidates from congressman to vice mayor, wherein they will pledge to denounce the conduct of nefarious activities to influence the outcome of the forthcoming elections.

1st Infantry Division commander MGEN Romeo D Lustestica will express his support to said activity as he represents the Army in its call and advocacy for credible elections.

It can be recalled that one of the thrusts or four ACEs of the Philippine Army this year is its Advocacy for Credible Elections. The Philippine Army reinforces its commitment to contribute to a very peaceful and credible election, not just in Metro Manila area, but in the different parts of the country as well. #
